sound-juicer does not read my CD

Bug Description
Binary package hint: sound-juicer
When I try to use sound-juicer to rip a CD (or use CTRL-R to re-read the disc) it says:

and no tracks show up in the track list. When I look in Edit->Preferences it does see my CD-ROM drive and cdparanoia is perfectly happy to rip tracks from it:
$ cdparanoia -B

Not sure what the problem was, but a reboot seems to have corrected it.
For now, anyway.
