Bug Description

Binary package hint: xsane

This is a carry-forward from the scanner problem in Feisty (see bug# 86022). I have heard that this was fixed upstream & have talked to people on sane-developer-list about this. The problem seems to be specific to Ubuntu & the way the USB_SUSPEND is compiled in the kernel. I really would like to use my scanners at some time in the future & want to use a "stock" kernel to do so. I do know that Gerhard Jaeger from Sane-list compiled a kernel without the USB_SUSPEND & has good scanner operation in his Ubuntu install. I remember in the past that there were several different kernels available---would it be so much of a issue to have a suspend & non-suspend "flavor"???

I know that laptop suspend is a priorty, but I do not think that loosing a important functionallty for desktops (including the business sector) should be over-looked.

I have the same issue with Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.
My Canon Lide20 is well recognised (self-detected) by Sane, but not working at all.
I am new in Linux, and coming from Mandriva 2007, because I had already an issue with my scanner (It work, but didn't stop the ligth tray and risk to destroy it!).
I hoped to have better running with Ubuntu, but now it doesn't work at all...
I really expect a solution soon.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release (Hardy Heron)? Thanks in advance.

To be honest--I had forgot about this one--was fixed about part-way thru Gutsy development. I run the testing branch all the time & have reported a few bugs in the last year....

I just tested with both units running Hardy & with both scanners--other that the frontend for the HP still scanning a bit pink--all four combos worked very well.

I would call it bug closed....
