Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-cpufreq-applet

By default, the cpufreq-applet cannot change the governor setting from itself and AFAIK there is no other way to change it in GUI in GNOME. A simple "sudo chmod +s /usr/bin/cpufreq-selector" would solve the problem and I remember having to do this back in dapper or breezy and I am quite surprised it's not fixed as it would be very simple to fix.

I'm running cpufreq-applet on Gutsy without problems atm. I upgraded from Feisty.

This bug was nominated for Gutsy but does currently not qualify for a 7.10 stable release update (SRU) and the nomination is therefore declined.

According the the SRU policy, the fix should already be deployed and tested in the current development version before an update to the stable releases will be considered. With 7.10 now released, that policy applies to this bug. See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

The bug is not being closed as work will continue on fixing it for the next release, Hardy Heron (8.04). If the state of this bug should change such that it qualifies for the SRU process, please contact the person who originally declined it and ask them to re-evaluate it. From my dist-upgraded gutsy where the fix wasn't applied, no, and applying the fix gives me governors when you left-click the applet, which was previously absent. I'll try on the Gutsy LiveCD later to see if it's fixed on vanilla gutsy.

Seems like this is still not fixed in Hoary. It's an absolutely small fix (at least I think so) and yet still it's unresolved for two release cycles.

Problem stil present in vanilla Hardy (workstation)!
Did a fresh install from the LiveCD. Added the gnome-cpufreq-applet to the panel. Applet functionality ok, EXCEPT frequency and governor selection is unavailable. Frequency and governor selection is not shown on left mouse click and it is not available for selection in 'preferences.
Removed the gnome-cpufreq-applet from the panel, did the "sudo chmod +s /usr/bin/cpufreq-selector", re-added the gnome-cpufreq-applet to the panel. Now the full applet functionality is ok, INCLUDING frequency and governor selection.
