Dell Latitude X1 Screen Resolution

Bug Description

I just installed Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) on my Dell Latitude X1 and I'm stuck with the wrong resolution. The proper resolution is 1280 x 768, but I'm stuck with 1024x768. I tried a few of the fixes suggested for earlier versions of Ubuntu, but none of them seems to work. Because this bug seems to have been reported at least a half-a-dozen times for earlier Ubuntu versions, with no clear or clean fixes available -- I'm surprised that an official patch hasn't been issued. I consider this a high-priority patch -- the X1 screen is hard enough to read with the correct resolution -- looking at the incorrect resolution is making my eyes water.

Thanks for reporting the problem. This is a known issue, and fixes are already in the works. Marking this a dupe.

For a preview, if you wish to assist with testing, please `sudo apt-get install displayconfig-gtk` and run `sudo displayconfig-gtk`.

Alternately, if you wish to test the new automatic resolution detection, move your /etc/X11/xorg.conf aside and restart X, and see if it detects the correct resolution.

Both of these solutions are still developmental and work for only a small proportion of cases, which is why they're not rolled out generally, however your testing feedback on them would be useful to have. You're right that this is a high-priority issue we hope to resolve for gutsy.
