Bug Description

Binary package hint: bfilter

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu Edgy with all updates
2. Install package bfilter
3. Configure 127.0.0.1:8080 in Gnome as the proxy.
4. Start update-manager -c
5. Try to do the upgrade to Feisty using update-manager's GUI

Result:
The upgrade does not work because the GPG authentification fails. On the console you see:

extracting '/tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz'
authenticate '/tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz' against '/tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz.gpg'
exception from gpg: GnuPG exited non-zero, with code 131072

Further investigation shows that the file /tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz.gpg is empty.

After deactivating the bfilter proxy and restarting update-manager -c the upgrade works fine.

You should only use bfilter as s proxy for you web browser.

But there is only one place in Ubuntu to configure a proxy. You cannot just set it for the web browser. The configured proxy is used for all HTTP traffic.

I still think this bug is valid and is fixable by improving bfilter's default configuration. E.g.

NOFILTER *.gpg
NOFILTER *.deb

(and perhaps some more package related extensions) could be added to /etc/bfilter/urls.local
