Bug Description

Fresh install of Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 + Gnome 3 ppa.

To be able to create an enterprise account (Active Directory), the realmd package must be installed and is not by default.

I see that realmd is already in Ubuntu after all.

What version of gnome-control-center and gnome-online-accounts do you have installed?

I run 13.04 + the Gnome 3 ppa, so Gnome 3.8.1.

And yes, realmd is already packaged by Ubuntu, it just has to be included in Ubuntu Gnome to be able to use the Entreprise Login feature.

Thanks Jeremy.

If you want realmd installed by default in Ubuntu, realmd will need to be in main first. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess

It doesn't need to be in main for Ubuntu GNOME but I don't think either Ubuntu or Ubuntu GNOME wants to enable this feature by default if we don't know whether it works with the rest of the default install. Do lightdm and gdm both support logging in to an "enterprise" account?

Do you have a step-by-step guide for how to set up a server to handle Enterprise Login requests?

Hi Jeremy,
I'm using Enterprise Login for some months now, so I can give you a feedback. As far as I see, it doesn't work the way you think or I thought. Enterprise Login has no impact on the way you log in into the system. It is just a way to get an authentication token on the AD.

Here are the steps I work with Enterprise Login:
- Log into my Ubuntu workstation with my local credentials
- Go to System Settings -> GOA
- If the AD (Enterprise Login) credentials have been expired, just update them by clicking "Log In"
-> That's all, I can browse my company network shares.

My main problem is the AD credentials get expired about once a day, and I have to run these steps every day, a bit annoying. But it works pretty well.

Looks like realmd is shipped by default in Xenial Xerus. Might have been shipped as default as early as 14.04 as well.

realmd:
