xvidcore should be in universe, not multiverse

libxvidcore is licensed under the GPL, so it should be in universe, not multiverse.

There's plenty of software that may infringe patents in universe. mp32ogg is just one example of many. These packages can't be in main, but they can be in universe if the copyright license is free.

Since there is a update policy for patents (see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/PatentPolicy) and there is a similar package in universe (x264), I would like re-open this bug to include this package in universe. libxvidcore is a depend of mplayer, and it need to be in universe to allow mplayer to do the same.

As Matthew said, the software is under the GPL, so there is no reason to not allow it in universe.

I agree. Many universe packages like blender, me-tv, xine, even gimp-plugin-registry depend on this, and having it in multiverse causes these not possible to install if one chooses not to use multiverse (like I do, because otherwise some truly non-free software might get installed easily).
