Bug Description
Binary package hint: grub-installer
When installing from the 7.04 AMD64 alternative CD, the system is left in an unbootable state if /boot is on a seperate partition from /. This is a common scenario for RAID, LVM, etc. The fix is to boot up in rescue mode, mount /boot, and create a symlink using 'ln -s . boot' in /boot. This is documented on the Wiki: https:/
As you tell the partitioner that /boot is a seperate partition, grub-installer should be able to figure this out and create the symlink as needed. Even if /boot is not on a seperate partition, I can't see anything bad coming from creating the symlink, so it could just be created in all cases.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you, as 7.04 reached its End of Life in October 2008. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
