Bug Description
I was using the 2.6.20-15-generic kernel and everything was fine. I checked under System ---> Preferences ---> Hardware Information and the bus type for my cd rw + dvd r drive was listed as SCSI. 'blkid' showed my hard-disk as /dev/sda. I then upgraded to the 2.6.20-16-generic kernel and all of a sudden my hard-disk became /dev/hda. My cd rw+ dvd r drive which originally was /dev/scd0 became /dev/hdc. I found this out by checking in System ---> Preferences ---> Hardware Information. It listed the bus type as IDE now.I edited my fstab and changed /dev/scd0 to /dev/hdc and I could finally mount my dvd. Automount for dvd however didn't work. I rebooted back to 2.6.20-15-generic kernel and my cd rw + dvd r drive became /dev/scd0 and my harddisk became /dev/sda again. I hence attribute the above case to a conflict between libATA and the 2.6.20-16-generic kernel.
Thank you for your bug report.
Assuming
lspci
shows that you have an ICH4/ICH5 (or possibly ICH6) SATA controller then sounds like Bug #116996 ...
