I found no way to update my original posting, maybe an admin can do it for me. Thanks.

I guess it would be my job to do this as I raised this case. However, I would appreciate if anybody else does since I have remarquable problems with english language. I had a look at the mentioned link /upstream/gnome but got only confused where what how to do.

@ Pedro: couldn't you do this? It looks you are familiar with the procedures.

I have Linux Mint 7 (essentially Ubuntu 9.04) and also have problems with .swf files. I get the error message 'GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error.' as well, but I'm not entirely sure its the same problem: I get the following output from terminal when I attempt to play the file:

------------------------------

totem ~/Downloads/rta1.swf
/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/gdata/tlslite/utils/cryptomath.py:9: DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead
  import sha
** Message: Error: GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error.
gstffmpegdemux.c(1215): gst_ffmpegdemux_open (): /GstPlayBin:play/GstDecodeBin:decodebin0/ffdemux_swf:ffdemux_swf0:
Unhandled error code received

--------------------------

The file I have tried to play can be found at
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/tests/driverqualificationtest/hazardperceptionpart2/buildyourhazardperceptionskills.html
and clicking on any of the options in the main frame results in the problem occuring.

misiu_mp : The error message is the same, but the conditions are different, might be too soon to mark one as a duplicate. Bug 336597 only appeared recently, for all ubuntu versions so it's likely a change in youtube website. It looks like gstreamer stop after finding things it does not support in a swf file.

I have this bug too... it's really annoying to have the "Youtube" option and don't able to play most of the videos.

to reproduce just follow these steps:

1. open totem
2. select youtube from the sidebar
3. write "a ride into toronto"
4. select the first video
PUM!

or:

1. open totem
2. menu "open location"
3. paste: http://www.youtube.com/v/K9btWRjnjWk?f=videos&c=ytapi-GNOME-Totem-444fubtt-1&d=Aa_GPZt8t1WjXJl-QnyunkwO88HsQjpE1a8d1GxQnGDm&app=youtube_gdata

The problem I think is that libgstswfdec.so is not in the gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad package anymore.

How come the core gstreamer still has a hook to it though?

If anyone has the lib file, please, give us a link.

Thanks

It shouldn't be gstreamer's bug, instead, Ubuntu shouln't use totem as the default application to open SWF file at all
