Bug Description

Feisty 7.04 Ubuntu

To get to gnome I have to do the following. Turn on my computer press 'esc' at the prompt and then choose Ubuntu recovery mode and then after that I am at a terminal logged in as root and then type startx and gnome starts up. Even though I am in gnome as root I have no administrative rights. If I log out my computer locks up with a wait cursors for the mouse pointer with totally black screen. If I start my computer normally it comes to a black screen with a wait cursor for the mouse and locks up. My computer is unusable in the state it is in.
