Bug Description

totem crashs at the startup with the following error message (terminal output)

riot@tux:~$ totem
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 42 error_code 8 request_code 141 minor_code 14)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What videocard and driver? Do you use totem-gstreamer or totem-xine? Does it happen when trying to play a video or also when simply opening totem?

Hi,

I use Feisty Fawn with a Ati X1400 (driver was installed via envy, Ati Driver 8.37.6). I use totem-xine. The Error occurs every time i want to start totem, when i want to play a video the same error occurs

what is "envy"? seems to be an ati closed source driver bug and not an ubuntu one

envy is a tool from alberto milone that installs the proprietary driver from ati or nvidia: http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html
I didnt think that it is an Ati problem in general cause any other video application like mplayer or vlc works fine.

could you try if that happens with the ati open source driver?

i can't do this now cause i need a working system and i only have one computer with this configuration. I even don't think that it is an driver-problem, are there any Updates the last days which touchs totem or any totem-near application or libary?

The 7.04 desktop got no recent updates, no. Closing the bug then, it's most likely a closed source driver one

I have no try it with an xgl/beryl desktop with the same driver and it
works properly, the only thing i ask me its why it doesn't work with
normal xorg-desktop!
