The patch does not seem to fix the bug:

root@ubuntu:~# dpkg-divert --remove /usr/local/bin/foobar
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /usr/sbin/dpkg-divert line 224.
Use of uninitialized value in length at /usr/sbin/dpkg-divert line 224.
Use of uninitialized value in length at /usr/sbin/dpkg-divert line 224.
No diversion `any diversion of /usr/local/bin/foobar', none removed

This was with the patch applied.
