Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-core

I've just installed Ubuntu 7.04 and typed to open OO Calc:

fabio@morpheus:~$ ooffice -calc

** (process:10154): WARNING **: Unknown error forking main binary / abnormal early exit ...
fabio@morpheus:~$

The splash screen appears but at the end of the progress the above message. The same with Writer, but no message on console.

I am really confused about this, OO is one of Ubuntu's main software, how can this happen?

Thank you.

It's working fine here. Try killing process 10154

sudo killall 10154

this process seems to be the /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -calc or something like that. This is the crashing process.

BTW, calling it gives me a segfault.

I am sure it work on many systems.

I installed Ubuntu with settings to Brazilian Portuguese and also installed some language packages. Now I removed all OpenOffice packages, installed only openoffice.org package (and dependencies) and guess what: it works.

I will try to find out what package combination makes it break, if I find, I will post here.

I just reinstalled everything from openoffice and it started working. I could not identify what package combination or what during the installation process broke the software.

This bug can be closed unless someone else find the same problem.

Looks like an unsuccessful install.

Changed in openoffice.org:

Hi,

My issue started a few days ago when I was playing around with Screenlet/Desklet/Cairo Docks. I installed them and then un-installed them.

Prior to this event, my OO worked fine. After that, when I click on an OO file or use the command line (ooffice -calc), the splash screen appears, and that's it.

On the command line, I did not receive any message at all. I have tried to uninstall, reboot, install, reboot... and it didn't seem to work.

It appears that during when I was un-installing one of the docks, I might have removed a file that OO needs.

Any thought/help?
