Sony DVD RW DRU-820A -- I/O errors

Bug Description

This drive works under Dapper but when I boot into Feisty (same machine), I can see some files but I get I/O errors when I try to read them or open subdirectories.

dmesg shows:

sr 1:0:1:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x08000002
sr1: Current: sense key: Hardware Error
Additional sense: Logical unit communication CRC error (Ultra-DMA/32)
end_request: I/O error, dev sr1, sector 1108

There's been other people reporting its cd drives no longer working properly with kernel version 2.6.20 (feisty).
This is probably a duplicate of bug #94119.

Are you sure it's a duplicate? Mine is a DVD drive, not a CD drive.

Many of the reporters of bug #94119 were talking about DVD drives as well.
