Gnome top panel position changed at startup to the bottom

First time this occurred.
Powered up as normal and logged on, however Gnome took a long time to load.

What happens if you attempt a reboot? This sounds strange, and noticable enough that one would think it would have been reported already if it were a common occurence.

I was able to work normally during that session, however when shutting down using the quit button, nothing happened and at that point all the
actions on the top panel would not respond. Quit using Ctl + Alt + F1 and shutdown.
On startup this morning, gnome took a long time to start. The other users on this system are able to operate normally without problems.
Is it possible that my gnome config files are corrupt?

How many panels do you use and how are the configured? Could you make a screenshot of the bug? Do you have easy steps to trigger the bug? Does it happen every time?

Attached a screen shot of my normal desktop.
The bug only occurred the once, however the issue have continued to have problems with logout and shutdown. When logout button selected, and either logout or shutdown action requested, X will hang intermittently. Have to use Ctl + Alt + F1 to exit. Ctl + Alt + F1 does not always work, then have to hit the power off!

What is wrong on the screenshot? Could you describe what is the bug exactly?
