Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

System
-----------------------
K3b Version: 1.0.1

KDE Version: 3.5.7
QT Version: 3.3.7
Kernel: 2.6.22-6-generic
Devices
-----------------------
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2102 1006 (/dev/scd0, ) [CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM] [DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW] [SAO, TAO, SAO/R96P, SAO/R96R]

Started a new data CD project and filled the project with assorted files. Selected burn and set the burn speed to 6X. k3b sets this back to 4X which is bug 31768 but that's another story. The disc is burned successfully and the CD tray ejects. The k3b dialog is then displaying 'Verifying written data' (see screenshot) and sits there at 50% complete indefinitely. Debugging output also attached but I can't see anything obviously wrong.

System updated as of 7th Sept 07. Ive had this problem since I started using Gutsy (tribe4+)

The Elapsed timer keeps going up but no verify occurs.

One funny, the k3bsetup2 app that handles 'sudo-ising' for cd writing was not installed by installing k3b, apparently this isnt a bug (darned if I know how to install it). Perhaps this is related.

Ditto here.

It's never been a problem in Ubuntu prior to Gutsy.

This problem happened for me after upgrading Kubuntu 7.04 x64 to Kubuntu 7.10 x64. Unlike the description though mine hits 50% and doesn't even eject and I cannot do anything the clock even locks up. The discs seem to work fine though.

How is this a duplicate?

This is only affecting Gutsy. It was not a problem in Feisty.

The other report mentions Feisty and different situations...

Yes, same thing here. Writes the data, but won't verify. Kubuntu 7.10 (64bit) & k3b 1.0.3

Same problem here. Whether I burn a CD image or DVD image, after the burn process, the cd tray ejects and reloads (my computer is a desktop, not a laptop). But the verifying process does not start. Clicking Cancel does not close the Verifying dialog. A Force Quit is necessary.

Same here burning DVDs with K3b 1.04 & Gutsy 64 AMD.

I'm using an LG IDE burner that's in a USB caddy. It seems to work fine in everything else, but unfortunately K3b is the linux software I have that does a verify after write.

I confirm this bug. Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 x86 with LG DVDRAM GSA-4167B and k3b v.1.0.4. burning process of iso images, data and audio project using both dvds and cds, read-only and rewritable ends successfully, but when I use "verify" option, k3b always hangs after finishing burning and ejecting the medium. I can then only press "cancel", after which whole k3b application freezes. after that I have to "kill" its process. never had this problem with feisty (also i386). I upgraded to gutsy about a month ago. I didn't knew this was a bug. I tought there's something wrong with my LG burner, so I tried Brasero and Gnome-baker. both seem to work fine, but of course, they're not so cool and functional as k3b. cheers.

I fixed it by disabling open drive after disk is completed. Instead of
burning the disk and locking up it continued with verification.

Settings -> Configure k3b
Under Advanced check "Do not eject medium after write process"
try that... work around...

just to announce my joining the club (hardy 64bit, gnome).
i will try ffer's advice to disable opening the drive before verification starts; mail back with results on next burning.

Disabling open drive after disk is completed does not work for me if I am creating a data DVD. It works for creating DVD from iso image. If I create a data DVD by selecting files/folders from my HDD and keep the data verification option turned on, it hangs after the writing is finished. Manual md5sum check of files written on disk shows they are identical!

I am using 64 bit hardy (gnome) on Intel Core 2 Duo machine.
