Bug Description

Ubuntu 7.04 (Linux Mint 3.0)
alsa-base 1.0.13-3ubuntu1
alsa-utils 1.0.13-1ubuntu5

I have an Asus M2N-E motherboard with integrated HDA Nvidia (AD1988B).
By default stereo is upmixed in a strange way to 5.1 and I haven't found a way to disable that behavior.

>speaker-test -c2

expected: noise is coming from left speaker, then from right, again left and so on

what i get: rear is duplicated with front, center duplicated with left front, lfe duplicated with right front

The same behavior is taking place when playing music using amarok-xine for example.
Sound devices config in amarok-xine and speaker arrangement setting doesn't have any effect (I really want stereo 2.1 mode).

>speaker-test -c2 -D surround51
works just fine

Debugging info is in following posts.
