Workaround as per forums:
find /usr/share/fonts /usr/local/share/fonts /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig.d -type d -print0 | xargs --null touch

Above work around does not work for me. There is some issue with permissions.

Confirmed by duplicate.

confirmed on Gutsty Release Candidate.... still getting this error.

Confirm here, fresh Kubuntu-gutsy alternate 32-bit install. The solution was to touch all the dirs as told at Ubuntuforums. Possible reason was that the date of the folders was too new and touch changed the time backwards. Maybe these directories are created before timezone etc data is set?
