Bug Description

My ubuntu (feisty 7.04) was running great until last week, when I upgraded to kernel 2.16.20-16. It was at this point I started having problems. My boot time takes 5-10 minutes now and it just hangs on:

'reading files needed to boot'

I turned off quiet splash in the kernel options, and now I see:

'no resume image'

I noticed that was looking for a resume image with the same uuid as my swap drive, so I'm not sure if that is what it's supposed to do or not. I'm really at the end of my rope here as I have spent the majority of my free time on forums, launchpad, etc trying to figure this out. Please help! Also I'm not sure how to put code in these pages, and my code tab is greyed out in my browser so I don't want to paste in huge logfiles in here, but I'll be glad to share them with anyone who can help. Thanks!

oh I forgot to mention, I removed the 16 kernel thinking I could revert back to 15, but this has not helped...

Thanks, Jerome. What concerns me is that even after I removed the 16 kernel through synaptic, I'm having the same problem.

Hi mummra1,

The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the kernel. It would be helpful if you could test the latest Hardy Alpha release: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. Thanks.

The 18 month support period for Feisty Fawn 7.04 has reached it's end of life - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.04-end-of-life . As a result we are closing the linux-source-2.6.20 task. If this is still an issue with the most recent Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, please feel free to reopen this bug by setting the status back to "New" and reassigning the package from "linux-source-2.6.20" to just "linux". Thanks.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
