The fix is available as a service update package at http://nuvolaplayer.fenryxo.cz/download/service_updates.html (Google Play Music, version 4.4). If you have GStreamer 1.0.x (Ubuntu 13.04, maybe Arch Linux), make sure you have disabled HTML5 Audio in tab Service in Nuvola Player preferences .

Fix committed to lp:nuvola-player as r774.

Original report
===============

Google Music suddenly stopped playing with Nuvola player on Oct. 29. Everything was OK a day ago.

I have Ubuntu 13.10 x86_64 and Nuvola Player 2.2.0 Revision: 773.

To reproduce the bug:
-Connect to Google Music
-Start playing any song
The song icon changes to "currently playing", but there is no sound and the progress is not moving.

I noticed that Google changed the login screen so the bug is probably related to some update made on their side.

Thanks for taking time to report your issue.

On Debian Wheezy:
- HTML5 Audio enabled in both NP and GM: plays
- HTML5 Audio enabled in NP, but disabled in GM: doesn't play
- HTML5 Audio disabled both in NP and GM: doesn't play

Flash-based playback seems not to work.

Changed in nuvola-player:
status: New → Triaged
importance: Undecided → High

Arch Linux, latest NP & GS: No combo works.

Also: It seemed that HTML5 audio has been turned on automatically in the GM labs section for me.

Just to add to this, the debug messages on the command line don't illuminate as to why this is the case.

Attached is an output of -D

This is affecting me too on Ubuntu 13.04 x64.

Nuvola seems to correctly read the song, and artist info and everything, but gets hung up on actually playing the song. HTML5 enabled in GM and NP.

Log attached.

The fix works for me. Ubuntu 13.04, gstreamer 1.0.6-1, flash back-end with html5 audio disabled in nuvola.

Thanks!

I know that you've pulled back on development of nuvola, so thanks a lot for continuing to fix bugs like these, it's appreciated.

Actually, the development of Nuvola Player is still stopped (no new
features, services, and PPA packages). I only keep providing a very
limited support and fixing of trivial bugs for now. However, I've
decided to try crowdfunding once again.

I have found that with current Nuvola 2.2 that Google music will not play [sometimes] when I have either the "Block unnecessary web plugins" or "Use cache for remote data" options selected from the Advanced tab of the Preferences. Clearing these and restarting the application seems to resolve this. Use the "Quit" from the application menu to ensure you are actually shutting down, as opposed to just clicking the window close which can leave Nuvola minimized in the background in some cases.

Having worked it out, it does not seem like a bug, however my initial query to figure this out brought me here which is why I posted this comment. I've just made a crowdfunding donation, as I really enjoy the Unity integration that Nuvola brings to Google music.

- Clean notifications
- Tray integration of music controls
- Closing while playing minimize to tray
- Right click Next/Thumbs down for easy tagging of tracks to be removed at a later date
