Bug Description

My laptop hangs some of the time when the lid is closed and the system is on battery. Gnome power preference is to suspend when on battery and the lid is closed. I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem; the symptoms are that the screen stays black, power light is off, battery light on. Caps lock and num lock don't change their status lights, and pressing the power button does nothing (I have to hold the power button to shut off the laptop)

manual suspend triggers the same symptoms. A correction: all lights go off (battery light will flash if system is on AC power). Pressing the power button will turn on the power light and cause a faint click (speakers?) but the system does not resume.

Thanks for your bug report, more information is needed.

1. Please provide the information as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend.
2. We also need the output of these commands on a terminal:
 $ uname -a > uname-a.log
 $ cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
 $ sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
3. Attach dmesg.txt, uname-a.log, version.log and lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
