Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

The version of compiz in gutsy worked perfectly on my nvidia based laptop, desktop, and ATI laptop under XGL until the latest update.

Once compiz 1:0.5.1+git20070703-0ubuntu3 was installed, and x was restarted, this behavior started happening. I narrowed this down
to compiz and not X, the drivers, or the monitor because this happens on 3 different systems with different monitors and hardware.

Since compiz is enabled by default and this behavior is happening, this is a blocker for "composite-by-default". See attached screenshot.

The problem you're having (probably) is that General Options>Display Settings>Detect Outputs is not enabled so it's using the default value of 640x480+0+0. (/apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/detect_outputs in gconf)
