Bug Description

I have ubuntu feisty installed on this new machine, and have run into alot of issues with it.
Firstly, the graphics controller (with latest nvidia proprietary drivers) is underperforming, and often crashes the system completely, total lockup of mouse etc when in use (eg by beryl). It can't resume from suspend, and will not work at all (can't enable display in X or terminal) if usplash is running during boot.
Secondly, the CD drive is not detected, and isn't allocated in /dev/ as anything. It loaded the livecd off it, so I don't see why this should be a problem.
When the computer totally locks up, no log file seems to take note of anything out of the ordinary except that it had just detected the CDRom and was trying to do something with it. Sorry to not be more specific, but i'm not much of a techie, any help would be appreciated, my only hope atm seems to be upgrading my kernel.

Hi,
The only problems I am still encountering with the FZ11M are lack of
automatic detection of the CD drive, requiring the all-generic-ide
kernel switch. The webcam doesn't work with UVCvideo drivers, I had to
find and install some proprietary ones from a website. Suspend and
hibernate do not work, along with lcd brightness. The sound card won't
cut off the internal speakers when headphones are plugged in. Everything
else seems to work absolutely fine with this laptop, and all my other
problems are not hardware related. Most of these seem to be already
reported as bugs. However I don't think the CD drive issue is addressed
at all, and uvc video module could take whatever makes the other set of
drivers work and use that functionality to improve its own.
Thanks for the help, Chris

Hi QB89Dragon,

Can you comment which release you are currently running/experiencing issues with. More specifically it would be good to know which kernel version as well. Per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.
