Bug Description

I started ubuntu 7.04 from CD and it was working fine as a live CD. I then installed it to my hard drive. I did a reboot and ubuntu booted up quite good and worked fine. But after 1-2 reboots it slowed down. Boot process takes almost 5 to 10 minutes and it is very slow. Shutdown is also very slow. Below is my PC configuration.
Intel Pentium 3 800 MHZ processor
Intel 810E chipset mercury mother board
256 MB SD RAM
40 GB Samsung IDE Hard drive
15" Samsung Samtron 55v monitor
TVS Gold keyboard
Ligitech Scroll mouse
Sony CD rewriter

I tried disabling several services but it didn't help.

Could you post your /var/log/kern.log file?

Are only the booting and shutdown processes slow or is using ubuntu slow too?

Unfortunately I don't have the requested log files but all processes are
slow. Let me know if my hardware is not compatible with Ubuntu.

There seems to be nothing wrong with your hardware.

Have you already removed ubuntu or something like that? Without the log files debugging becomes quite hard.

Doh! Posted my own kern.log accidentally, at least that proves that you can just type "/var/log/kern.log" to the attachment field to post the log , if you are running ubuntu.

You got me right :)
I removed ubuntu. But I can install again and post you the results if that
helps fixing possible bug in ubuntu. I'm personally linux and open source
supporter.

That probably wont be necessary, as i suspect that there is a duplicate of this bug already somewhere. But you mentioned that ubuntu was working for a few time at first, do you recall changing anything that could have caused this?

Well I don't think any specific changes lead to this problem but I would
like to tell you that the same thing is happening with other distros such as
mandriva, fedora, pclinuxos, dreamlinux. But recently I installed PCBSD and
it works as a charm. It works faster than XP on my old hardware :)
