In case anyone cares about 2.4 kernels anymore, module-assistant is looking for linux-headers-2.4.27-2-686 on dapper and edgy, instead of kernel-headers-2.4.27-2-686:

# m-a -l 2.4.27-2-686 prepare

Non-2.6 are not supported.
