Bug Description

It seems this kernel version causes my Radeon HD 7950 to fail at the login screen -- the monitor has video output until it gets to the login screen. The previous version, 3.13.0-3-generic, which I am currently using, works fine.

Can you attach /var/log/kern.log so we can see the historical failed boot instead of the successful one attached to this bug?

I started a kernel bisect between v3.13-rc8 and commit 85ce70fd. The kernel bisect will require testing of about 5 or so test kernels.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
1a60864fc1c3b268a921549bcfc707c98083260b

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1270218

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not. I will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

That kernel works fine.

I'm currently running kernel 3.13.0-5-generic which seems okayish. In general, it seems the problem is intermittent. Sometimes on boot there is no display, other times it boots fine.

So the kernel posted in comment #20 does not exhibit the bug?

I haven't tried it, but I know the problem stopped completely with kernel 3.13.0-6 and also does not occur with kernel 3.14-rc1

It sounds like this bug is fixed then in the latest Trusty kernel. If that is the case, can you mark this as "Fix Released"?

Thanks for the feedback!
