Synaptic touchpad wrong middle-click under touch

Bug Description

When touching the touchpad, the result is like if I do a middle-click instead of
a right-click. The laptop is a HP Pavilion dv1000.

I sent an email to the mailing list explaining this and I found that I need to do:

synclient TapButton2=1

in order to make it do the left-click.

Let me know what output files would you like to have.

(EE) Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics touchpad detected and no repeater device
(EE) Synaptics Touchpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.

(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Configured Mouse" (type: MOUSE)

Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Seems like Santiago's Synaptics Touchpad is not being recognized by the kernel.
I am having same problem. Xorg.0.log says that no synaptics event device found.
Doing dmesg | grep 'Synaptics' does not give anything. This is with
linux-image-2.6.10-5-686. However, sometimes my touchpad gets recognised.
Yesterday linux-image-2.6.10-4-686 recognized it. But I don't know if the kernel
recognizes my touchpad randomly or it was the version 2.6.10-4-686 that
recognized it as I've been updating my hoary everday. Warty never recognized my
touchpad but Gentoo used to recognized it.

Maybe this should be a separate bug?

I don't know if you changed something related to this, but I just updated my
xorg with today's version and tapping is working fine. I will try a little
further to see if everything is working correctly.

Another update ... Today I rebooted the computer and it is not working correctly
anymore. I don't know what the difference between now and yesterday after the
xorg update (I rebotted after that).

Any data I can give you?

It seems that I am not the only one with this problem. Look at this review on
OsNews (http://osnews.com/story.php?news_id=10206&page=3). The laptop is
similar to mine.

After today's update, everything is working fine. I do now know if something
changed related to this problem or not. I did reboot after the changes were
applied and tapping works as expected. I will let you know if it goes back to
the previous behavior.

Santiago Erquicia, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 12723

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

Thank you for your understanding.
