Toshiba ACPI not enabled, fnfxd not works

I am having the same exact problem. My Toshiba model # is A105-S4164.

all errors noted above are exactly the same as mine.

Same problem. I have Toshiba Satellite 2430-201. Looking at the BIOS, I found Phoenix!!! :-(

What else can I do?

I have a Toshiba A105-s4164 and have been dealing with the same problem
for a while. What I have figured out so far is that fnfx works only
with APM not ACPI. Toshiba in the last couple of years has transitioned
away from APM so the fnfx will only work with older non-phoenix based
laptops. I have noticed though that since I have upgraded to Ubuntu
gutsy there is more support for newer Toshiba laptops.
about the only thing that I have found to do is to suck it up and
remember to never buy Toshiba again until they offer better linux
support.

We are launching a line of PCs with Ubuntu preinstalled. We ordered several of them from clevo/sager, and they came with the "vista-limited" phoenix bios, which disables ACPI/APIC in linux. After plenty of hell raising, we determined that the manufacturer can actually go into their "special" bios configuration and change a change a minor setting that fixes this problem entirely. All ACPI functions are fully operational now, on the EXACT SAME BIOS. We discovered the fix which they would like to keep secret when we started asking how they could offer XP preinstalled on the same hardware as vista, when this same problem manifests when trying to install xp. So, I don't know how they do it, but they can. Hope this helps. Contact me directly if you need any further information. Like I said, I don't know how, but it IS POSSIBLE TO FIX IT.

I get the same error message from fnfxd when booting on my Toshiba Satellite, and the brightness hotkeys don't work. However I can change brightness manually by echoing values to /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness .

Note that this works out of the box on Fedora 9. I booted up a live-cd, and it all just works, brightness keys do something, suspend-resume doesn't hang, etc.

Hi, this bug has been open since 2007. Maybe someone could provide some useful input?

FnFX don't work because Toshiba inclue " H2o insYde" BIOS ( It is an implementation of the Intel's Platform Innovation Framework for UEFI /EFI )

Toshiba laptops with Phoenix BIOS are still a no-go for special ACPI functions, for the record.
