Bug Description

I just installed Kaffeine to tests it's DVB-S-capabilities. However, I was not even able to search for channels:

--- Console output ---
hangy@sodium:~$ kaffeine

dvbsi: Cant tune DVB

dvbsi: The end :)

--- /Console output ---

There was no other program occupying the DVB adapter. Using VLC Media Player, it is possible to watch TV without any problem.

Any news on that?
The same happens for me using a TT 1401 (which worked fine quite some time ago).

adding a symbolic link for the missing dev file does not help.
sudo ln -s /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 /dev/dvb/adapter0/ca0

Maybe it is because I'm using recent kernel (2.6.24.3) with edgy.

/dev/dvb/adapter0/ca0 should only be required to use encryption cards for pay tv, as far as I know. So this being available or not should not affect the ability of Kaffeine to tune into a channel.

As there was no response to this item, yet (neither here nor on SourceForge.net), I usually use VLC to watch TV on my computer.

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 8.04 (AMD64), but as root I have no problems. However it sucks to watch TV with superuser. Please fix the problem.

Is it possible to test this in Jaunty please? Also, the reason there was no response is the fact that Kaffeine uses KDE's bugtracker, I will refile this at the correct tracker.

status: New → Incomplete

Correction: I will refile this once the above has been answered. Thank you :)

currently Kaffeine works fine with DVB-S on Hardy;
maybe it is because I unload&reload the corresponding kernel modules before starting kaffeine
