audio loudness keeps falling back to about 85%

Bug Description

Alienware m5500-R3i, 1GB RAM, 160GB SATA HDD, nVIDIA GeForce 7600 Go, Beryl, wicd, everything working except audio.

When playing music, I notice it's not as loud as it was with XP. So I go to the volume manager... and see that "iSpeaker" is on about 85% or so... so I drag it up, great, louder music :) so I close it..

to my amazement... about 10 seconds later it's back at 85% and I have to drag it up again and again...

also note: this happens whether the volume window is open or not, and whether it's active or not, and whether I'm playing music or using something else that uses audio (gAIM, etc)

problem is absolutely persistent. multiple reboots. nothing :(

I like my music loud! lol

since it's happening with all software and it didn't happen with windows I'd bet it's the ALSA driver ....

any input?
