Bug Description

After I installed the Murrine engine and used the Murrina Deviant theme from gnome-look.org, whenever I open Synpatic it looks really ugly, it uses a stale dark grey theme instead of Murrina Deviant. Other programs (gedit, OpenOffice) use the Murrina Deviant theme just fine.

This is not a bug with murrine. Synaptic requires you to use the root user, which, without some hackery, cannot properly access the theme the user you are logged in as is using.
This gives instructions on fixing it: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=302694
I guess it still is a bug, but I'm sure its been reported before.

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.
Afaik, the gtk theme is searched in /usr/share/themes and in $HOME/.themes (so /root/.themes for the root). Since your theme is only installed in your home directory, it's normal that synaptic (launched as root) is not able to find it (as explained in the previous comment).
