GL slow after suspend

Bug Description

3D acceleration normally runs very fast on my laptop, but after resuming from a suspend, it gets very slow. glxgears reports about 10 FPS after a resume. After a complete restart it works fine.

I am using Kubuntu Feisty on an HP Pavilion zt3000. lspci reports my graphics card as
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] (rev 01)
and I'm using the free graphics card drivers, not the binary drivers from ATI.
