Xubuntu 14.04 live DVD does not boot

Bug Description
When installing 14.04 LTS on an HP laptop PC Pavillion dv6, it boots from the DVD, shows the screen with the keyboard symbol at the bottom and then the screen goes blank. DVD activity continues for a bit and then the activity stops and the laptop is unresponsive.
Note, the same DVD was used to successfully install 14.04 on two different Dell dsktop PC's

The Graphics is an optimus card with a NVidia GeForce GT 650M

I should add that I removed the original broadcom wireless card and replaced with a centrino based card.
