This is a regression from 7.04 on a Sony Vaio VGN-CR120E laptop. I'm running Gutsy Tribe 4 from the gutsy-desktop-
This repros on both a Live Session boot and on the installed bits (with the 117 initial updates applied). This could be related to bug 131577 but that was for a previous version, at least some of attachments are different, and it didn't have the workaround below.

Steps to repro (Gutsy Tribe 4):
1) Boot into the desktop and open System-
Expected: Hear the tone.
Observed: No sound from the internal laptop speakers.
Workaround: If I plug in a set of headphones I can hear the tone, and after the headphones are unplugged the sound can be heard through the internal speakers as expected. This plugging / unplugging of headphones was not necessary on 7.04.
