Bug Description
Binary package hint: gparted
Using Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 live CD I wanted to resize Windows 2000 NTFS partition C:. The partition was 2 GB big and only 1 MB was free.
Steps:
1) inserted desktop CD, pressed enter to boot normally
1) ran Gnome Partition Editor
2) deleted the second partition, ok
3) resized the first partition from 2GB to 15 GB
4) In the middle of the operation, gnome automounted the partition and opened nautilus showing the files on drive C:
5) resizing operation in gparted failed, BUT the partition became 15 GB big even after reboot
6) free space on C: was still below 1 MB
Then, I did:
1) inserted desktop CD again and booted
2) killed some suspicious processes (avahi, gnome vfs) and deleted /media folder in order not to start automount
3) resized NTFS partition
4) in the middle of operation hal message appeared showing an error when mounting disk-1
5) resizing operation was done successfully.
I think this bug is quite severe. The solution is quite simple IMO, just disable gnome automount when gparted is making operations on partitions. This problem also probably appears in kubuntu and qtparted.
I forgot to mention that the first resize operation in gparted failed showing the error that partition is mounted and it cannot proceed with resizing.
