Bug Description

Hi

Currently using 7.04, decided to try out 7.10 on a none production machine. Update doesn't work for me due to some problems documented elsewhere, so I downloaded the Tribe 4 iso from Ubuntu.

It seemingly loads fine in LiveCD mode until you get to the splash screen. "ubuntu" user tries to auto login, at which point the screen flickers to the bootscript shell, and then back to the login screen which once again tries to autologin. (I believe this is an X restart, not sure how to check)

I am relatively new to linux so if you want logs, i will need advice in how to get them since I cant login.

Both failsafe options give the same error btw,

Adam

launching the live cd in the safe graphics mode seeminly works...this is on a 2d card machine so maybe the normal mode is defaulting to 3d?

Compiz will bail out and load metacity if your card doesn't support what it needs. It will also refuse to start in a failsafe GNOME session.

I installed in safe graghics mode and it was fine. It would seem the LiveCD isn't falling back onto metacity on my SiS graphics card (laptop). So obviously there is a simple workaround of loading in safe graphics mode, but still this isn't obvious. Maybe the splash screen could provide a little more info?

I get the same bug at my site, where Gutsy is installed on hard disk.
Hopefully the attached .xsession-errors will shed some light on it.

In my case, it was the proprietary nvidia graphics driver making trouble.
Updating it resolved the bug.

The same thing happens to me on an Acer aspire 5102 wlmi (ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics card) with the liveCD. So I confirm the bug.

I think this bug affects xorg server, so I change the package to xorg.

I have forgotten to say that the liveCD I have used is the daily build from 2007-09-23.
