[gutsy] vlc doesn't render properly with compiz 'normal desktop effects'

Bug Description
Binary package hint: compiz
When compiz's normal desktop effects are enabled (the default in Gutsy tribe 4), vlc does not render video properly.
Sometimes it does not render video for a few seconds, but then it returns.
It never renders video for me when I increase the size of the window or in full screen.
It works fine with desktop effects turned off.
Totem-xine also works fine with or without desktop effects.
lspci shows my video card as:

I believe that this is <https:/ /bugs.launchpad .net/ubuntu/ +source/ xserver- xorg-video- ati/+bug/ 122979>, and that it has been fixed. Can you verify that you have this version: xserver- xorg-video- ati (1:6.6. 193-1ubuntu1) installed? You can check that with the output of "apt-cache madison xserver- xorg-video- ati"
