Bug Description
Binary package hint: alsa-base
When installing ubuntu from scratch, mic booster is set off by default, that mean all newbie in Ubuntu will wonder why they microphones are not working... so was by a Friend of mine, by whom I installed ubuntu...
I think for a new user, it is pretty complicated to have to search answers in the internet, change alsa-mixer settings in the terminal...
Mic should work directly (it does under windobe), that's a core device, so I think it would be better to change the default settings in the package...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It would help us greatly if you could test with the current development version so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http:// www.ubuntu. com/testing/ . If it is reproducible in the development version, please run the alsa-info.sh script linked on https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/DebuggingSo undProblems and post the link to the results. Thanks again.
Also, instead of alsamixer, try right-clicking GNOME's volume mixer applet -> Open Volume Control -> Edit -> Preferences. Can you enable Mic Boost in there?
