Bug Description

Binary package hint: spe

Please update SPE to a newer revision for Gutsy's release. The current version in the repos, 0.8.2a, is over a year and a half old (released 2006Jan26). The latest official release is at 0.8.3c, although it's almost a year old itself. A newer pull from SVN would be even better, but 0.8.3 at least would be much appreciated. I checked on Debian's site, and they don't have anything newer than the one already in Ubuntu.

Someon would need to volunteer to package it then. Additionally, tomorrow is
Upstream Version Freeze for Gutsy, so I think this is extremely unlikely.

At least with my install of Gutsy, SPE doesn't even run now. Its stderr suggests it should use wxgtk 2.6 however the packages dependency is against 2.8 -- if we're not going to upgrade SPE, we should at least fix the dependency.

if someone could actually prepare a package, and do a uvfe, then this is possible. Until someone puts in the work, however....

Do not update to 0.8.3, but to 0.8.4.b from subversion. I can release it officially if needed.

An official release would be helpful.

Stani, the svn link on http://pythonide.stani.be/ is incorrect. As for entering svn co http://svn.berlios.de/wsvn/python/spe/trunk/_spe
I get

svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/wsvn/python/spe/trunk/_spe'
svn: PROPFIND of '/wsvn/python/spe/trunk/_spe': 200 OK (http://svn.berlios.de)

An official release would definitely be helpful.

What's happening? I would definitely appreciate being able to use this on my laptop, and I'm not going to struggle through building it myself with uncertain results. Thanks, Stani.
