Thanks for your report. Do you have any "core" file that you can attach, or a crash report in /var/crash/ ?

Extracts from the terminal log:

...
Preparing to replace libpaper1 1.1.21build1 (using .../libpaper1_1.1.22_amd64.deb) ...

Unpacking replacement libpaper1 ...
...
Setting up libpaper1 (1.1.22) ...

Illegal instruction (core dumped)

dpkg: error processing libpaper1 (--configure):

subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 132

Xvani, was this on upgrading to Hardy? Which version of libpaper1 is it?

From gutsy to hardy, yes. From before I had changed a file called papersize (or something) from "letter" to "a4" manually, which probably caused it to fail.
The installation program DID prompt me on this, but when I clicked "view difference between files" (or the side-by-side one) the program went on, saying it failed to upgrade libpaper1, and said the system might break.. I got a lot of error messages throughout the install because of this.

I did a dpgk-reconfigure -a after install. I Cannot find libpaper1 on my system at all now...

Xvani, can you please attach the upgrade log? It is in /var/log/dist-upgrade or something similar, like the DpkgTerminal log above.

For the record, I upgraded to the Hardy libpaper1 1.1.23 (i386 binary) in my Gutsy system, and it went well. I also downgraded to the Gutsy version on my Hardy system and upgraded it back without problems. (Both cases with a4 in /etc/papersize).

Xvani, are you also on amd64?

I am not on amd64. Intel core 2(?) duo. 32-bit version.

same here but different error number:

Setting up libpaper1 (1.1.23) ...
dpkg: error processing libpaper1 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 10

amd64, 8.04 LTS, XEN guest

no difference if i set a papersize (letter/a4) as mentioned above
