two problems with UIM-HANGUL(2|3)

Hi Christophe,

I am confused. You reported this bug against scim-hangul, but in your report you said the problem is UIM-hangule[23]. So which package are you using? Can you show the result of command "dpkg -l scim-hangul" and "dpkg -l uim-hangul" on your system?

Also, please give more infomation about your system. Are you using feisty (7.04)? How did you install scim and the Korean input methods? More information can help diagnose the problem. Thanks.

I'm using Feisty, I did add support for korean through synaptic : I have been using SCIM for quite a long time
(japanese), I just "upgraded" this week with the support for korean.

You may consider the following informations :

I can read and write japanese. I have a computer with XP (azerty keyboard) and I had to cheat with regedit
so i could write kana with my keyboard : I had not such problems with linux.

I'm new to korean. I installed support this week on my xp computer, and when I saw it was considering
a qwerty keyboard I ran the same trick : maybe I was wrong. I just need to have the same mapping
between all my keyboards though I use XP or Ubuntu.

BTW I may consider an azerty mapping when writing french, english or japanese and qwerty mapping for korean
as I don't see any link between keys and phonetic (considering korean).

I also suffer from the same bug. So I will describe it :

The bug affects BOTH scim-hangul AND uim-hangul.

The problem is, the hangul input method is layout-dependent, so if you use scim-hangul or uim-hangul with a QWERTY layout (which is the default on Korean computers for roman characters), everything is fine. Now, if you happen to have an AZERTY layout (such as in France), Q and A, W and Z, M and <comma> are swapped. I found a solution for AZERTY and UIM : in the file "/usr/share/uim/hangul2.scm", replace the contents with what you find at this page : http://leximnesia.org/?page=hangul2.scm

However, this « patch » may work for an AZERTY layout, but what about others (such as QUERZ, BÉPO or DVORAK) ? I am starting to use BÉPO, but I cannot type in Korean with it, unless I switch back to AZERTY. Note that I cannot type hangul with a QWERTY layout because of my « patch », which tolerates only AZERTY.

Making other « patches » for every layout that exists may be possible (and maybe it is the only solution) : a script would replace /usr/share/uim/hangul2.scm with the right « patch » each time you chang your layout. This looks like a bad thing to me, though.

I removed the mention "Invalid": this bug is real.

It is common to both uim and scim, but I don’t know if there can be a common solution or if both IM have to be debugged.
