Bug Description

Binary package hint: 915resolution

On Gutsy (and probably everything else) the startup script of 915resolution doesn't use the /lib/lsb/init-functions for display.

It uses "echo"s and it also allows its binary to spew stuff in the console. At least on my system the result is about two screens of misaligned messages during the boot process.

The attached file is my replacement for /etc/init.d/915resolution

It should do everything the current version does, but (1) it dumps any output of its binary in /var/log/915resolution and (2) it uses the init-functions to display messages, including success status, failures and warnings.

The current file should be replaced by this version (after some review, I could only check on my system).

It works, and doesn't seem horrible either. However with any luck no one will need 915resolution at all when +1 gets released in a few weeks. :-) Let's see what happens.

Could you please recheck it with latest Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 or the Live CD? 915 resolution has become obsolete in Gutsy since the new Intel driver is used.

Well I don't use 915resolution anymore (precisely because I use the new Intel driver), so I can't really check it easily. But unless someone merged my replacement above, or duplicated it, I doubt the situation changed.

I am closing this bug because 915 resolution is deprecated in Gutsy through new Intel driver and this problem isn't serious.
