[gutsy] compiz kills xwindows when blender starts

Bug #133680 reported by ChrisC

compiz (Ubuntu)
Incomplete

Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Because compiz doesnt play nicely with other applications
(assumes sole ownership of direct rendering) when blender starts
this causes compiz to crash bringing down xwindows and all other
apps you have started from xwindows

to reproduce ensure desktop effects in System\Preferences\ (desktop effects tab)
is set to extra effects, start Blender, xwindows will die

work round
select no effects in desktop effects tab, Blender and other opengl apps will now work

version numbers are kind of an irrelevance here but so you dont have an excuse to mark incomplete
and ignore this report

Blender 2.44 (sub 0) Build
compiz 0.5.2

NB this effects many more applications than Blender

I can confirm on this exactly.
Moreover, I can't even reach the console (CTRL+ALT+F1) anymore. For a "shutdown" I have to use the power button.
