Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

os: xubuntu gutsy tribe 4 live cd
problem: native widescreen resolution 1680x1050 not properly recognized

details: according to xorg.0.log the vesa driver is used for my ati card. the tft display is recognized including "additional mode" 1680x1050 with a modeline that has been working fine with an older ati card. however, xorg tells that it can't use this mode because there is "no mode of this name", using 1280x1024 instead. did not find any solution to get the proper resolution working yet.

system specs:

athlon 64x2 4000+
asus m2n-e
ati x1950xt @ pcie
2gb patriot ddr2
sound blaster audigy
hdd, cdr

display: lg l226wtq-sf

We believe this is fixed with a patch included in http://users.tkk.fi/~tjaalton/dpkg/xserver/, which will be added to Gutsy after Tribe-5.

The fix for this in Gutsy has been released with xorg-server-2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu2. Please check, and if the issue is still not addressed, please reopen this bug. Thanks!

hi bryce,

thanks for your reply - i already updated xorg server to the version you mentioned yesterday - unfortunately the problem still persists. so - how do i 'reopen' the bug? as soon as you tell me i will also attach my xorg.conf and xorg.0.log.

vesa does not support widescreen modes. Your previous card apparently did not use vesa, but the ati driver.
