Thank you for your inquiry. To clarify my issue, as I use the USATODAY
site, typically when I go to the site and click on the lead story, I
am redirected to an advertisement. If I click on the link for sports,
I might get redirected to another advertisement. It seems control is
exercised so that I always get a fresh advertisement. I also seem to
recall that it did not start until I began using the site regularly.
So it is not technically a pop up I guess. But it does interfere with
my time and force me to view something I do not wish to view. Thank
you for your time.
Tom Daniels.

The advertisement is a layer generated by an OAS tag. Technically this is not a popup and can't be blocked with a popup blocker. You can try to hide it with an extension like adblock. This will hide the layer but you'll still have to wait.

Not a FF issue.
