Is this only affecting the launcher? I tried to reproduce this now, and while I do see a little decrease of performance when 9 apps are opened (its not terribly slow, just a bit jumpy), the launcher doesn't behave any worse than the rest of the ui.

Can you confirm this is a Launcher-only issue? if yes, can you add more detailed steps to repriduce? which apps are open, which one is in foreground?

@mzanetti its not just the launcher, if you're viewing the Apps scope, and have loads of running apps screen shots there it is quite a bit slower compared to the virgin image. Also, the spread itself is quite a bit slower in comparison as well as more app screen shots are added - I'm wondering if this is due to updating the previews?

@kgunn, yep, my observations too. Nothing to do with the launcher. So we don't have screenshots in the spread any more. Its the real apps. Still, the apps are frozen so they shouldn't update the surfaces in the spread anyways. I rather think its the rendering engine, given that not only the spread is slower, but also other things, like the dash and the launcher.

Anyways, I guess we can close this as duplicate of bug #1337904 then.

Ok, changed the spread to make applications invisible when they're either outside the screen on the right, or covered by other apps in spread mode.

Now we're painting at max 2 apps when idle or 6 apps when in full spread mode. Should improve this situation quite a bit.

After some more tweaking I think we're in a position to close this bug now. It shouldn't be any worse with QtComp than with trunk any more.
