Some Programs have to be resized a bit to function

Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)

When i launch a specific program, like Volume Control and a few other apps, the window has to be resized or Maximized to be able to click inside the window and for the controls to function. Sometimes when a program opens a dialog box, like when you Clear Private Data in Firefox 2, the "Clear Private Data" window has to be resized just a bit before i can check/uncheck any of the options in that window.
