On an Apple MacBook (black non-pro one), the wireless network card is not properly detected and the drivers aren't loaded automatically.

Which version of Ubuntu are you running? The driver version provided in 7.04 is unable to handle the Macbook (I'm not sure if we've updated the version in 7.10 yet, but it ought to be done before release)
