Bug Description
NCBI provides Sciences packages via the Universe repository. For instance Blast2. You can find this repository if you look it up in the Ubuntu pages but it does not appear in the Add/remove listing, even though I do have universe selected. Certain others are shown.
Then when I tried "sudo aptitude install blast2" the program installed perfectly. Hence, for some reason the Add/remove dialog does not show all.
This is in Feisty to which I just changed from Dapper. In Dapper the Add/remove window had a click box that opened a second dialog that showed many more packages. I guess this is somehow related: Either for some reason I do not see that button or the module has changed and shows all inmediately.
The Add / Remove app isn't meant to show all packages available. It's a tool intended for people who are new to Ubuntu, and covers a subset of popular applications. If I'm not mistaken, the button you mentioned used to launch the Synaptic package manager, which you can still access via the Administration menu to install all software available in Ubuntu with a graphical interface.
I'm marking this bug report as invalid. Please continue to report any other bugs you may find in the future.
